I finished 2 short chapters today. I've gone back to the parallel text as I think it's still helping me.

I was able to get to stage 3 today! I read the English, listened to the Spanish, and was able to follow it for 3 pages or so.

First off, it's working. Yay! I tried listening to the beginning of another audio book, and I was able to understand a surprising amount, maybe 20%. Today I just let the audio go, and didn't stop it once.

Got through Chapter 1 today, and started aligning chapter 2. The parallel text is so much better than the monolingual text. My listening is improving, and I can definitely pick out more words from the audio now than when I started. What I do now is skim the English quickly to get the gist of the story, then follow along with the Spanish, occasionally checking the English meanings of words but not stopping the audio.

Switched to El Hobbit today. The audio for Juego de tronos was horrible. My listening sucks, so I am sticking with steps 1 and 2 for now. I am reading and listening to smaller chunks than yesterday, about 2-3 pages, over and over, 5 or 6 times. I made a parallel text in Word today, but the alignment takes a lot of time, so I only finished Chapter 1.

Started on Juego de tronos today. Prologue starts 7 minutes into the 1st mp3. My vocabulary is so poor that I can't follow the audio by itself at all. I can make out the names of the characters, and that's about it. I fare a little better when I read along with the audio. It takes a lot of concentration to follow just a single paragraph.
